Non tuberculous Mycobacteria
- Our current projects focus on nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), that differ from the mycobacterium species causing tuberculosis or leprosy.
- Some NTM are opportunistic pathogens that can cause chronic infections in humans and animals. These infections are currently increasing and as these bacteria are resistant to many disinfectants and antibiotics, both the prevention and treatment are very challenging.
- We are working on the most frequent pathogenic species from the Mycobacterium avium complex and we study the regulation of their virulence switch and how these bacteria interfere with innate immune responses.
